Aristocrat Gaming Unveils First Monopoly Slot Machine

Monopoly comes under heavy fire from a lot of fronts. It’s been the cause of many a heated family argument, although, to be fair, that can be true of most board games and games in general. But, it’s disliked among the board gaming community, too.

Criticism is typically levelled at the fact it relies heavily on luck, and that once a player takes the lead it is very difficult to turn things around, which means several hours playing a game when you already know the outcome.

It also involves player elimination which, for the most part, has been removed from modern board game mechanics to prevent unlucky or unskilled opponents having to entertain themselves for hours on end while the rest of the group finishes a game.

The Game We Love To Hate

But, for all the hate it receives, Monopoly is the best-selling board game in the world. Current owners, Hasbro, claim it has sold around 300 million copies worldwide and it has spawned multiple versions and variants as well as digital variants. And, of course, a McDonalds loyalty program game.

Recently, a Hollywood movie has been announced and will be created by the team that brought us Barbie, and Netflix are preparing a social contest gameshow based on the title. It’s fair to say that while it gets slated, Monopoly still attracts a lot of fans, and that could grow to include casino bettors.

Monopoly On The Casino Floor

Casino gaming studio Aristocrat Gaming has shown off a new Monopoly slot, Monopoly Big Board Bucks, at this year’s Global Gaming Expo (G2E) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The game is the first title to appear as a result of a partnership between Aristocrat and Monopoly’s publisher, Hasbro Gaming, announced earlier this year. The deal gives Aristocrat the rights to manufacture and sell Monopoly-based physical slot machines.

On the unveiling of the new title, Aristocrat Gaming’s Chief Executive, Craig Toner, said: “Monopoly is one of the most globally-recognised brands, and we wanted to ensure that Aristocrat’s take on the licence evoked both excitement and familiarity for players.

“Monopoly Big Board Bucks brings dynamic visuals and sounds – synonymous with the board game – together with innovative hardware, game mechanics, and excitement that Aristocrat is known for.

“We can’t wait to see the impact this game will make on casino floors next year.”

Meanwhile, Hasbro’s Director of Gaming Relationship, Claire Hunter Gregson, said: “Being a part of the grand unveiling of Monopoly Big Board Bucks at G2E reinforces our decision to partner with Aristocrat Gaming to bring fresh, bold ways to connect our brand to adult audiences.”

The game is described as having “triple metamorphic gameplay” which means, in this case at least, that it offers extra spins, extra properties, and extra houses. The main aim of players looking for the big prizes is to land the Big Board Bucks Bonus, sending the player around the board where they can land on bonuses. Landing on Go will launch the GO Jackpot Wheel.

The new game is expected to launch next year and will initially be made available to casinos in North America, although it could roll out globally afterwards.
