Ghost In The Shell Arise TTRPG Campaign Complete, Target Smashed

Don’t Panic Games’ planned Ghost In The Shell Arise tabletop roleplaying game has completed its Kickstarter campaign, smashing its €10,000 goal and amassing €428,011 in pledges. The project has an estimated delivery of October 2026, which means, with any luck, we’ve got less than a year before fulfilment.

The total pledge level means that all of the stretch goals were unlocked, with a few extras added in the last days of the project, having surpassed early expectations.

Ghost In The Shell originally launched as a manga series and was published between 1989 and 1991. It also enjoyed anime adaptations and an animated TV series before a Hollywood movie featuring Scarlett Johansson swelled the size of the fandom.

It was announced earlier this year that the Ghost In The Shell anime will be getting a reboot in 2026, which means the TTRPG could launch at just the right time.

And, there’s good reason to get excited about the launch. The campaign’s page states: “After taking a long time to ponder things, we decided to approach the I.P. from the perspective of the anime TV series, which provides a greater quantity of directly usable material to create a game.

“And we want this game to be epic indeed: we have no intent to limiting its scope. On the contrary, it is our firm intent to keep providing new material coming from the various eras of the Ghost in the Shell Saga (ARISE, S.A.C.) in the future.”

In terms of mechanics, players will become elite operatives helping to form the Public Security Section. As well as individual missions, players will be able to take on missions to enhance their own back stories, as well as improve the Public Security Section HQ. The game will use a modified version of the Forged In The Dark TTRPG system, and the Game Master will be tasked with ensuring the smooth flow of the narrative.

The game is being developed by Don’t Panic Games. The French game producer has form for cyberpunk tabletop games, having previously developed Cowboy Bebop, and has also developed anime titles like Naruto into board games and deck builder games.
