A Game About Digging A Hole Will Let Console Players Dig Holes In December

A Game About Digging A Hole is a game about digging a hole and, on 9 December, console players on Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch, will be able to get in on the action. The game has become a surprise hit on Steam, being added to 100,000 wishlists in just five weeks.

A Game About Digging A Hole was created by a single developer from Cyberwave. The title was made as a side project, and took just 14 days to create, launching on Steam in February 2025 and selling a quarter of a million copies within its first week. Priced at £4.29, it is likely to enjoy a similarly bargain price on consoles.

A Cosy Digging Game

Described as a cosy digging game, there is no time limit and no real pressure during gameplay. You do have a health bar and can take fall damage as well as dynamite damage, but you can pay to replenish your health, making it all a jolly lovely time.

It takes roughly two to five hours to complete, depending on how much of a completionist you are, and gameplay really is based on digging a hole.

Having just bought a new home, you are tasked with digging a hole in your new yard. As you dig, you will find resources that you can sell, using the proceeds from the sale to improve your shovel.

While the beginner shovel is basic, it has a handy feature that lets you know when there’s rarer resources nearby. You can also upgrade your inventory, battery, and even jet pack. Consumables like dynamite and lamps can also be purchased.

While the majority of the game is spent digging and upgrading, there is something of a mystery storyline, and you will find items other than cases of cash and ores while digging.

It’s a simple game with a simple premise and simple gameplay, but it has proved very popular on Steam where it is up for the Sit Back and Relax gaming award. It will be worth a look on console, especially if you’re the kind of gamer who enjoys digging holes in Minecraft or enjoys quirky games like Untitled Goose Game.
