CloverPit Roguelite Reaches 1 Million Sales, Adds Hard Mode
Slot machine roguelite title, CloverPit, has been enjoying some impressive sales figures since its Steam launch in September. And, publisher Future Friends Games recently announced they had hit the 1 million sales milestone, while also announcing a new hard mode for the game – a feature that was heavily requested by its players.
CloverPit is a roguelite that shares a lot of features with games like Balatro, Buckshot Roulette, and Luck be a Landlord. In short, you are locked in a prison cell with a slot machine, a conveniently located ATM, and a few other items. There’s also a trap door below you. Which you’ll be hoping to avoid.
When you start the game, you have a prescribed amount of debt and three rounds in which to repay it, with your only means of doing so being winning money on the slot machine.
Once you do pay off your debt, though, you get three rounds to beat the next level of debt. And so it continues. Getting increasingly more difficult with each level of debt. Thankfully, when you beat a debt level, you are rewarded with phone upgrades, and you can also exchange tickets for charms. If you fail to pay off your debt, you plunge through the trap door into hell.
Sales Milestone And Hard Mode
The game’s powerful combos and addictive gameplay meant it only took two weeks to reach 750,000 sales, and about a week ago, less than 2 months after it was launched, CloverPit reached the one million sales milestone. At the same time, the game’s devs and publishers also announced the addition of the most highly sought-after feature – a hard mode.
Charms and other items can be kept in your drawers between runs, with the effects of some carrying over to the next run. While your first few runs can feel almost impossibly difficult, once you’ve bagged a few of the more powerful charms, the game feels much easier.
To counteract this apparent ease, the developers have added a hard mode that doubles the deadline amount. The update also brings some tweaks and changes to charms and other features, aimed at balancing difficulty.
CloverPit Details
CloverPit is an indie game developed by Panik Arcade, a two-person team that previously developed Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom. It’s published by Future Friends Games, which brought us Summerhouse, The Cabin Factory, and more.
Last month, they launched another slot-themed game, Slots & Daggers. Cloverpit costs £7.65 to purchase, and there is a limited demo version available. The game gets Very Positive reviews on Steam.
I did find CloverPit enjoyable initially – stringing together charms and features felt powerful, but bagging memory cards and picking up some of the better features is very heavily reliant on the Random Number Generator. Ultimately, it feels like the game is a lot more luck-based than the likes of Balatro.
