Winter Burrow To Get Much Needed In-Game Map And Other Updates
Cozy winter survival game, Winter Burrow, is set to get an update that will bring some much-requested improvements to the game. Chief among the improvements is the addition of an in-game map. Players will also gain access to better storage options, as well as improved key-mapping capabilities. And Pine Creek Games has also teased a surprise for its players.
No exact date has been given for the update, but we have been told it will land before the shortest day of the year.
Winter Burrow
Winter Burrow launched in November 2025. The game was a day-one release on Game Pass and is available on Steam and Switch. It’s classed as a cozy survival game, and while the game looks really pretty and has some decent gameplay, it’s far from perfect.
There’s no real need to craft anything other than the tools you need to progress the storyline; missions become a major back-and-forth fetch slog, and, at least during the early game, the lack of a map is a major turn-off.
Mini Map
The game involves a lot of running back and forth while completing missions. Not only does it get a little repetitive, but during the early game, it is very easy to get lost, with no in-game map whatsoever.
It’s a fairly common complaint about the game, and developers Pine Creek Games have heard those complaints. According to an update released on the game’s Steam page, “The first major thing to get added to the game is a map! It will be a map that you can open, and it will fill the entire screen. Here you can see all the areas you’ve unlocked, and you can see which area you are currently in.”
However, developers have cautioned that “it will not be a map that gives you a detailed idea of exactly where you are, since we still want to keep a sense of discovery and surprise.”
Better Storage Options
Currently, all items you add to any storage item in your burrow go into a single, central repository. The items can’t be sorted, and they aren’t separated into the different storage containers, making things a bit of a pain.
Storage will be updated, with unique storage containers holding their own, separate items. And there will be options to sort items, too, bringing good quality of life improvements.
Other Improvements
Players will also be able to remap controls to chosen keys, and Pine Creek Games has also promised improvements to mouse and keyboard smoothness.
Finally, fans have been promised a surprise. And, while no firm date has been given, the Steam page announcement says “you will get it before the shortest day arrives and the long dark nights slowly turn shorter.”
